Blog Description

Greetings!

I am a biology/philosophy student at Brock University in Ontario, Canada.

I have created this blog to discuss options and plans for the recreation of steppe/grassland environments in Canada, with a focus on two areas. These areas being northern Yukon and southwestern Alberta.

Since the Pleistocene extinctions, many large herbivorous mammals have been eradicated or extirpated from large areas of North America. The only surviving megafauna are moose, elk, bison, musk ox, pronghorns, mountain goats, dall/bighorn sheep, and mule/white-tailed deer. All of these animals, possibly with deer as an exception, have been severely reduced in their range.

Thus in a similar fashion to what is being done in Iberia, Siberia, and Patagonia, I plan to set in motion similar projects here, starting with the most important project, recreating the Mammoth Steppe.

I will be releasing lists and articles of proposed species to introduce as proxies for formerly existing, environmentally important species. I may also discuss recreation of certain species, such as the Yukon and Scott's horse, through breeding efforts.
